NETZ46 — painting masks for a net pattern 1:35 (Solid Scale)

A set of painting masks from the German manufacturer Solid Scale. It is not a kit and not decals, but an accessory for painting: a second shade is sprayed through the film and a regular net pattern with sharp transitions appears on the model. A motif like this is very hard to mask by hand, because it calls for an even width of the openings over the whole surface. The set is sized for 1:35 scale.

Use

• Spray the underlying shade that will show through the net first, and let it dry.
• Lay the masks on so that the openings carry over in the places where they pass over edges and hatches as well.
• Press the edges down carefully — on a fine net, bleeding shows most of all.
• Spray the second shade at a right angle, in several thin coats; the net then stays readable.
• Take the film off shortly after it has dried and store it flat for further use.

Who the set is for

For modelers who want a regular geometric pattern on a model whose masking by hand would be disproportionately slow. It finds a use with hypothetical schemes and everywhere the surface is meant to look broken up and intricate. The film is low-tack and is intended for repeated use, so it will last for several models.

The result looks best when the underlying and the covering shade are not in too much contrast — too sharp a difference in a small scale visually breaks up the shape of the model.

Paints and glue are not included in the package. The model the pattern is applied to is sold separately.
