Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf. E 1:35 masking stencils (SX-Art)

A set of masking stencils for a model of the Pz.Kpfw. IV medium tank in the Ausf. E version in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer SX-Art. It is not a kit and not decals but an accessory for painting. The stencils are laid on a model that is already painted and cured and serve as a pattern for spraying a camouflage scheme or tactical markings. The pattern is then part of the layer of paint, so it has the same degree of gloss as its surroundings and no edge of carrier film arises.

The real subject

The Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf. E was a German medium tank from the beginning of the Second World War, that is, from the early production series of this type. It was marked by a short 7.5 cm gun intended above all for support fire and by an angular welded hull. Later versions of the same type already received a long barrel, so when building the early version it is a good idea to watch that no features of later series end up on the model.

How the stencils are used

• Let the base paint cure fully, not merely dry to the touch
• Degrease the surface and rid it of dust, so that the stencil seats along its whole edge
• Press the stencil down from the middle toward the edges, and proceed in sections at rivets and edges
• Spray at a right angle, at a lower pressure and in several thin coats
• Take the stencil off soon after the paint has set, pulling at a sharp angle
• Unify the pattern with varnish, and only then apply washes, dust and further patina
