1:35 Pz.Kpfw.V Ausf.G Panther Schürzen is an Eduard etched set with the side armor skirts for a model of the medium tank in 1:35 scale. It is an accessory to a kit, not a standalone model.

The set deals with one specific part of the build: the side armor skirts, in German Schürzen. These are etched brass parts that replace the plastic skirts from the kit. The advantage is obvious the moment you hold them up. Because of the injection molding process, a plastic part has a thickness the original never had, while etched sheet comes far closer to true scale. Alongside such specialized sets, Eduard also offers full etched sets covering a whole model, narrower Zoom sets for quickly refining the crew compartment, self-adhesive masks and combined sets bringing several partial sets together. This item belongs among the accessories aimed at a single detail.
The Schürzen were thin steel plates hung along the sides of the hull and above the running gear. Their job was to set off or deflect a hit early, before it reached the armor itself, especially against anti-tank rifles and shaped-charge projectiles. In service they were easily bent and lost, so period machines are often seen with an incomplete or buckled set of skirts. The Ausf. G was the last mass-produced version of the Panther; it carried the long-barreled 75 mm gun and a simplified design of the hull sides.
With skirts in particular it pays to make use of the pliability of brass. A slight bend, a torn corner or a missing piece looks far more alive on a finished model than a perfectly straight row of plates. Separate the parts with a scalpel and make the bends over a steel rule. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, ideally after degreasing. Spray the metal with a primer for metal, otherwise the paint chips off the edges. The skirts tend to be heavily dusty and scuffed, so pigments and a scuffed edge done with a dry brush work well on them.
