An injection molded plastic kit of the Ural-4320 off-road truck in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer Trumpeter. The 1:35 scale is the most widespread one for ground subjects, so the model can be combined without trouble with figures and with other vehicles in a diorama. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The Ural-4320 is a heavy off-road truck with all three axles driven, that is, a 6x6 layout, built at the Ural works. The vehicle came about as a universal carrier intended for heavy terrain and for conditions with minimal support for maintenance. Characteristic features are the short cab over the front axle, high ground clearance and a simple, robust structure that takes improvised repairs. The Ural serves in military and civil roles as a carrier of cargo and troops, as a chassis for purpose-built bodies, tankers, workshops and equipment carriers. Thanks to its long production it can be met in many configurations, with a tarpaulin and without one.
On a truck the chassis is the most laborious part. Assemble and spray the frame, the axles and the transmission separately, because once the cab and the bed are fitted you can no longer reach inside. Tires with a coarse tread deserve more than just black paint: a matte dark gray base, fine dust in the tread and a glossier polish on the contact patch make the difference. Paint the bed and the tarpaulin separately, and with the tarpaulin it pays to bring the folds up with a dry brush. At the end add mud effects from the wheels upward and dust on the horizontal surfaces, because a vehicle like this is never clean. Bring out the engraved lines and the grilles with a thin wash.
