This item is not a kit but a detail accessory for diorama builders. It holds photo-etched brass insulators of the short-stem type, twenty pieces in all. The insulators are mounted on the poles of power and telephone lines, on brackets on the walls of houses or on crossarms along roads and railways. It is small things like these that make a scene believable, because a pole on its own without insulators and wires looks like a bare stick. The manufacturer is the Polish firm Aber, a specialist in photo-etched and turned metal accessories.
A short stem matches the type of insulator mounted straight onto a bracket or onto a crossarm close to the pole. In a diorama they are used where a low-voltage distribution or telephone line runs along a road, through a village or across a railway station. Thin thread is strung onto the insulators to stand for the conductor to scale. A set of twenty pieces is enough for several poles, so you can build a continuous stretch of line rather than one isolated feature.
Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel and sand the burrs away with a fine file. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue; the gel version gives you time to position a part. Degrease the brass before painting and lay down a primer for metal. Classic porcelain insulators are painted white, light gray or brown, while glass is imitated with a translucent varnish with a blue-green cast. You make the conductors from thin thread, for example from a filament or drawn fishing line, which is tinted dark gray once strung.
The accessory is supplied as a photo-etched set, unpainted. Poles, conductors, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
