Responsibility details are not available.
A turned metal barrel in 1:35 scale from the Polish maker Aber, intended for a model of the Soviet SU-85 self-propelled gun. It matches the 85 mm D-5S gun. It is not a model of the vehicle but a detail accessory with which you replace the plastic barrel on a finished kit. The metal part has an accurate cylindrical profile with no parting line and a hollow muzzle, which on injection-molded plastic always calls for extra drilling.
The SU-85 was a Soviet self-propelled gun built on the chassis of the T-34 medium tank. It came about as an answer to the growing armor of enemy vehicles, once the tank destroyers in service had proved inadequate. The 85 mm D-5S gun sat in a fixed fighting superstructure with limited traverse, which gave the vehicle a low silhouette. It went into action from 1943 and was later replaced by a more heavily armed version.
Cut the plastic barrel off with a saw, clean the opening in the mantlet and open it out to the diameter of the metal pin if needed. Check dry that the barrel sits on the axis of the vehicle and does not droop. Degrease the metal, glue it with cyanoacrylate glue and spray a primer intended for metals. Leave the muzzle darker and matte; the lower part of the barrel can take a dusty pigment that hints at the vehicle moving across country.
This is a detail set, not a complete model. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
