The photo-etched set Eduard 1:35 SU-122 brings fine metal detail to the plastic model of the Soviet self-propelled gun. It is an accessory for a model, not a kit in its own right.
Responsibility details are not available.
A photo-etched set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard in 1:35 scale for the plastic model of the Soviet SU-122 self-propelled gun. Thin metal sheet makes it possible to render features that injection-molded plastic can only manage in an exaggerated thickness: sheet metal parts, fine grilles, grab handles and the small fittings of the hull. The set does not hold the vehicle itself; it is an aftermarket improvement that is fitted to a plastic model you have already bought.
The SU-122 was a Soviet self-propelled gun built on the proven chassis of the T-34 medium tank. In a fixed fighting superstructure it carried a 122 mm howitzer, so it served above all to support infantry and to destroy fortified positions rather than as a pure tank destroyer. Series production got under way at the turn of 1942 and 1943 and the machine opened a whole line of self-propelled guns on the T-34 chassis.
Separate the photo-etched parts with a scalpel on a hard surface and bend them in a bending tool or between two blades. Metal is glued with cyanoacrylate glue in minute drops; on larger areas a slow-setting epoxy helps, as it leaves time to align the part. Degrease the surface and apply a primer before painting. On Soviet equipment a base green shade works well, with the edges picked out with a dry brush and mud and dust effects added with pigments, as they come out best on exactly these fine metal parts.
The package holds photo-etched parts only. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
