This is an accessory, not a tank kit. The set holds photo-etched parts from thin sheet, with which parts of a plastic kit of the T-54B medium tank in its late form are replaced or supplemented. The set is intended for a modeler who already owns the matching kit; neither the model itself nor plastic parts are in the package. The particular extent of the set is given on the manufacturer's card.
The Takom kit serves as the basis; it is bought separately.
The T-54 was a Soviet medium tank of postwar design, which followed on from the development line of the end of the Second World War and became one of the most widespread tanks of all. The T-54B version of the second half of the 1950s is among the late forms: it carried a stabilized 100 mm gun and night vision equipment, completed by infrared searchlights. The characteristic features of the vehicle are the hemispherical turret, five road wheels with no return rollers and auxiliary fuel tanks on the fenders. It is precisely these external elements — thin fenders, the grilles above the engine compartment, brackets and fittings — that are always thicker in plastic than reality warrants, and that is where photo-etch comes into its own.
Degrease the brass parts before gluing, or neither glue nor paint will hold on them. For clean bends use a bending tool or at least two straight blades; bend longer parts along their whole length at once, so that no wave forms. Harder sheet can be warmed briefly before forming, which softens it and makes it bend better. Glue with superglue in small amounts applied with the tip of a wire, so that the glue does not run into the engraved detail. Before painting, apply a primer made for metal surfaces to the metal. The fenders and side plates can easily be bent or damaged, which looks convincing on a model, but do it before gluing them on.
This is an add-on set, not a model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
