A turned barrel of the American 76 mm M1A1 gun with the M62 mount for the Sherman M4 series tanks, 1:35 scale from the manufacturer Aber.
Responsibility details are not available.
A turned metal part in 1:35 scale from the Polish manufacturer Aber. It replaces the plastic barrel of the American tank gun of 76 mm of the M1A1 type in combination with the M62 mount, as the later tanks of the Sherman M4 series carried it. This is a detail accessory for a plastic model, not a kit of the vehicle in its own right.
The gun of 76 mm replaced the original shorter weapon of 75 mm on American medium tanks, because the penetrating power had to be raised against more heavily armored targets. The M1A1 version was the first of the family of these long barrels and in its early form it still had no muzzle brake. The longer and more slender barrel noticeably changed the silhouette of the vehicle and, together with the new turret, it is among the most conspicuous distinguishing marks of the later versions of American medium tanks.
Cut off the plastic barrel as close to the mantlet as possible and level the cut, so that the turned part seats squarely. Degrease the metal with alcohol before gluing and roughen it lightly; glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Lay a primer suitable for metals onto the metal, or the paint will hold poorly. The muzzle of the barrel is drilled, so it pays to pick it out only gently with a dark wash after spraying.
This is a detail accessory, not a complete model. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
