About product

Archer 1:35, US Army division patches, infantry and airborne

A sheet of dry transfers in 1:35 scale with US Army shoulder division patches. According to the name it covers the markings of the 10th, 30th, 31st and 37th Infantry Divisions and the 11th Airborne Division. The set is intended for the uniforms of figures; it is not a model, a kit or the figures themselves.

Why dry transfers suit figures in particular

A shoulder patch in 1:35 scale measures only a fraction of a millimeter and it is one of the places where an ordinary waterslide decal lets you down: on the matte, uneven cloth of a uniform the carrier film creates a glossy island that is visible even after matting. A dry transfer leaves no film behind, as the motif transfers straight into the finish and looks painted on. That is exactly why this type of marking has established itself among figure builders.

How it is applied

The sheet must on no account be soaked in water. Cut the motif out together with its carrier film, lay it face down on the sleeve of the figure, hold it with tweezers and burnish gently with a rounded point, a toothpick or a pencil without lead. Because of the size of the motif a magnifier and a steady hand come in useful. Then lift the carrier film slowly; if the whole motif has not transferred, return the film to exactly its original position and burnish again. The sleeve is rounded, so work in small steps and lead the pressure from the center of the motif out to the edges. The surface should be smooth, well dried and degreased. After transfer, spray the figure with matte varnish, which will seal the patch.

Who the set is for

  • builders of US Army figures in 1:35 scale
  • modelers who want to assign figures to a particular division
  • makers of dioramas that call for convincing uniform detail
  • patient modelers, as working with a miniature transfer calls for tweezers and a magnifier

The set contains the markings only, not figures or a model. The particular number of patches for each division is stated on the box.

FAQ

No. They are dry transfers, which are transferred by burnishing with a blunt point through the carrier film. Soaking will ruin the sheet.

On the matte cloth of a uniform a waterslide decal leaves an edge of carrier film that shines. A dry transfer leaves no film behind, so the patch looks painted on.

In small steps. Lead the pressure from the center of the motif out to the edges and lift the carrier film slowly, so that you can put it back and burnish an unfinished spot again.

The exact breakdown is on the box.
