The Artwox Model 1:700 wooden deck for the battlecruiser Kongo 1914 with masking and photo-etched sheets is a combined accessory set for a plastic kit, not a standalone model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A combined package from Artwox Model for a model of the Japanese battlecruiser Kongo as she was in 1914. According to the name it contains a veneer deck with pre-printed plank laying and an adhesive backing, a masking sheet and a sheet of photo-etched parts. The set is cut for one specific kit, the Kajika KM70001.
Once it is glued down, a veneer deck looks clean and new, which on a ship in service is not entirely convincing. The strongest effect comes from gently accentuating the seams between the planks. The procedure is simple: first seal the surface with a matte varnish, then apply a heavily thinned dark wash and draw the excess off with a cloth in the direction of the plank laying, never across it. Without a sealed surface the wash soaks into the porous veneer all over and the deck turns gray irreversibly.
On a sealed deck you can work with pigments as well: a restrained light dust in the areas away from traffic and a light wipe along the walkways turn an even surface into one with a story. Keep it low-key, though, because in 1:700 scale every contrast is magnified. Glue the photo-etched parts from the set on only after the deck is finished so that they do not get in your way while you wipe the wash off.
This is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a standalone model. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
