1:35 US Comic Book Covers is a printed paper sheet with the covers of period US comics for dioramas in 1:35 scale from the firm ETA diorama. It is not a kit and not a decal – the motifs are cut out and used as small printed matter in a scene.

Small printed matter belongs among the most effective accessories for a diorama, because it brings a human dimension into a scene: a booklet left on a bench, on a crate or in a figure's hand tells you what the characters were doing a moment ago. This sheet brings the covers of period US comics in 1:35 scale, that is motifs from which the modeler makes booklets or magazines. Paper is the right thing here – the finished article is made of paper in reality too, so there is no need to try to imitate printed matter with a decal or with paint.
In crew back areas, on a bench, on the hood of a vehicle, on a crate, in the hands of a seated figure or in a little pile in the corner of a workshop. The effect grows with carelessness of placement: a booklet open, two pieces over one another, one fallen on the ground. In 1:35 a booklet is a small object, so it pays to place it where the viewer is looking anyway – next to the main figure or in the foreground of the composition.
Cut with a scalpel along a rule; when bending over the spine, first run the line over with the blunt side of a knife and the paper will then break cleanly. For the bulk of a booklet, insert one or two strips of thin paper inside the cover, level the edges with a file once glued and tone the white cut lightly, so that it does not glare. It is glued with PVA or matte glue in a minimal amount – with parts this small a drop on the tip of a toothpick is enough. Aging does a lot: bent corners, fine pastel around the edges and matte clear coat, which takes off the sheen. A booklet laid slightly crooked always looks better than one perfectly straight.
