Voyager Model 1:35 SU-76 — photo-etched fenders are an add-on set for a plastic kit you already own, not a standalone model. Thin metal sheet replaces thick plastic fenders on the MiniArt 35053 kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This aftermarket set from Voyager Model holds parts of photo-etched metal and serves to detail the MiniArt 35053 plastic kit. It is not a model of the vehicle. On armored subjects the fenders are among the most conspicuous thin sheet pieces, and that is exactly why their plastic version is always a compromise: the part has to have the thickness the mold and handling require. A metal replacement removes that compromise.
The SU-76 was a Soviet light self-propelled gun that combined a chassis derived from a light tank with a 76.2 mm gun in a fighting superstructure open at the top. The vehicle was simple, light and built in large numbers; it served above all for direct support of infantry. Its light construction also brought with it thin, easily deformed fenders, which in period photographs are often bent, sagging or partly missing.
Metal has one great advantage over plastic: it can be convincingly deformed. If you want to bend, buckle or partly tear a fender away, form it before gluing over a round object or by careful pressure through a soft pad, and keep comparing the part with the real thing, so that the deformation looks natural and not like random crumpling. Suggest tears with fine scalpel cuts, not with nippers. Once it is glued on, degrease all the metal, lay on a primer for metal and spray the paint thinly. Worn edges and rust applied with a dry brush then take hold well in the edges of deformed sheet.
The package holds photo-etched metal parts only. It does not hold the plastic kit, the glue or the paints.
