USS Lafayette was the lead ship of an American class of nuclear ballistic missile submarines (SSBN) of the Cold War period. Submarines of this class carried ballistic missiles and formed part of the strategic deterrent forces. The extended section of hull with the missile tubes aft of the conning tower is characteristic.
The submarine can be built with a full hull, or as a waterline version. Take care over clean fit of the hull halves and over cleaning up the seam. Paint the hull with an airbrush and pick out the transitions between the colors gently. A suitable display base works well for showing it.
