A 1:350 wooden deck for the British battlecruiser HMS New Zealand is an adhesive veneer set with pre-printed plank laying for a plastic kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory, not a model. The veneer sheet is cut to the shape of the deck surfaces of one specific kit, is adhesive on the back and carries the pre-printed laying of planks including the suggested seams on the face. It is glued onto the plastic deck and replaces its engraved decoration with a real wooden texture.
HMS New Zealand was a British battlecruiser from the years before the First World War, that is, a ship from the era when a teak deck was a matter of course and ran across most of the upper surface of the hull. On models from this period the deck is therefore the dominant visible element, and how it is done decides the overall impression more than on later ships with extensive superstructure.
The veneer comes in a natural light tone. If you want a darker, more weathered or, on the contrary, a scrubbed look for the deck, tone it with a thin oil wash or a very gentle wood stain applied in thin coats, always on an offcut first, because wood soaks unevenly and the shade will not come back. Finally seal the deck with matte or satin varnish in a very thin coat; it protects it from the grease on your fingers during the rest of the build and unifies the sheen with its surroundings. Avoid heavily thinned varnishes applied with a brush in a single stroke, as they could lift the edges of the planks.
Sold separately as an accessory. The kit, wood stain, varnish and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
