Fujimi 1:350 IJN Haruna 1944 (Operation Sho-1) — a large kit of the Kongo-class fast battleship in her late wartime configuration from the time of the Battle of Leyte.
Responsibility details are not available.
This kit from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi captures the battleship Haruna in 1:350 scale, and that in her late configuration of 1944 from the period of Operation Sho-1 — the Japanese plan for the defense of the Philippines, which culminated in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. The late form of the ship is marked by markedly strengthened anti-aircraft armament and radar equipment, which makes the model an exceptionally intricate and detailed project.
Haruna, one of the four ships of the Kongo class, started out as a battlecruiser; after two extensive modernizations she served as a fast battleship escorting carrier groups. In October 1944 she took part in the fighting off Leyte as part of Operation Sho-1, including the action off Samar. She came through the war until July 1945, when she was put out of action during the Allied air raids on Kure.
The numerous anti-aircraft armament of the late configuration calls for patience — prepare and paint the guns in groups and only then fit them. Complete the hull in a darker naval gray with decks in a wooden shade; the radar aerials and the railings can be raised further with photo-etched add-ons in 1:350 scale. A large model stands out on a firm stand with brass columns.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
