About product

LCT Mk.6 Landing Craft Tank, the 501 class, 1943 to 1945 - an AFV Club kit in 1:350

An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:350 scale from the Taiwanese maker AFV Club. The subject is the landing craft for tanks LCT Mk.6 of the US Navy in the form corresponding to the period 1943 to 1945. The model is supplied on sprues, and before the build the parts have to be separated, cleaned up and glued. The particular number of parts, the content of the decal sheet and any photo-etched parts are listed on the box.

The real subject

The LCT (Landing Craft, Tank) was a category of flat-bottomed craft with a hinged bow ramp and an open cargo deck, meant for putting tanks and heavy equipment ashore directly on a coast. The Mk.6 was the American version; the craft were built divided into sections, so that they could be transported and joined on the spot. The superstructure with the bridge and the engine room was placed at the stern, so that the cargo deck stayed clear along its whole length. Craft of this type were used in landing operations in Europe and in the Pacific alike.

Building and painting tips

Decide beforehand whether you will build the model with the full hull on a stand or as a waterline model set into the water, as it affects both the order of gluing and the painting. The open cargo deck is the dominant feature of this type, so paint and work its interior before you fit the side walls. Glue with a thin cement for polystyrene, fill the seams of the hull carefully and sand them over. Fit the small parts of the railings and the fittings only after the base coat has been sprayed. Begin the painting with a primer, carry on with the base shade and add the wear; on landing craft the marks of abrasion on the ramp and the cargo deck are typical.

Who the model is for

  • For modelers of ships in 1:350 scale.
  • For anyone interested in landing and support craft, not just in big warships.
  • For diorama scenes of a coast with equipment being put ashore.
  • For intermediate builders.

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The form of the hull is given in the instructions in the package.

The contents of the package beyond the craft itself are listed on the box of the set.

For putting tanks and heavy equipment ashore directly on a coast by means of the hinged bow ramp.

The model is of a fairly simple shape, but the small parts and the filling of the hull call for patience. Suitable for intermediate builders rather than beginners.
