An injection-molded plastic kit of the American tank landing ship of the LST-1 class in 1:350 scale from the manufacturer AFV Club. This is a newly designed mold with elaborate detail. The bow doors can be assembled in the open or the closed position and the kit also deals with the elevators between the main deck and the tank deck, so the model can read as a ship ready to put equipment ashore. The decals make it possible to build several specific vessels of this class.
Ships of the LST type, that is tank landing ships, were among the most important vessels of the Allied landing operations of the Second World War. The first units of the LST-1 class entered service in 1942 and roughly a thousand of them were built during the war. The ship measured roughly 100 meters in length and 15 meters in beam, the full load displacement reached about 3880 tons and the top speed did not exceed 12 knots. The flat bottom design made it possible to run straight onto the beach, open the bow doors and put equipment ashore without a port. The deck armament consisted of anti-aircraft guns of various calibers. The vessels saw use in the landings in Sicily, in Normandy and in a number of operations in the Pacific.
Decide in advance whether you want the doors open, because the tank deck is then visible and it pays to paint it before the hull is closed up. Spray the hull separately from the superstructures and add the deck details only at the end. Use thin layers of paint on the large flat surfaces of the deck, so that the engraved details do not disappear. The model looks excellent in a diorama scene on a beach, where the purpose of the vessel comes out.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
