USN 5in/62 Mark 45 Mod 4 – turned metal barrels 1:350 (MASTER)

A set of two turned metal barrels for the American naval gun of 127 mm (5 inch, Mark 45 Mod 4, barrel length 62 calibers) in 1:350 scale from the manufacturer MASTER (Poland). It is not a ship model but an accurate accessory: the metal barrels replace the plastic barrels from the original kit and give the gun a sharp and accurate look.

The real subject

The Mark 45 Mod 4 gun of 5 inch caliber is a modern dual-purpose naval gun of the US Navy with a lengthened barrel (62 calibers). It arms above all the destroyers of the Arleigh Burke class, and other fleets use it as well, for example the Japanese destroyers of the Kongo class. It serves for shore bombardment, against surface targets and for air defense.

Fitting and use

• Cut off the original plastic barrel and drill a hole in what remains of the part
• Glue the metal barrel in with cyanoacrylate
• Metal holds paint better once degreased and primed
• Intended for models of modern destroyers in 1:350 scale
