Ferrari FXX 1:43 — supplementary decals from MSM Creation

A supplementary decal sheet in 1:43 scale intended for a model of the Ferrari FXX. It is not a model or a kit, but a separate accessory with which the markings on a model that is already built or part-built are completed or replaced. Sets of this type are used where the original sheet in the box is not enough, has yellowed over time or was damaged during the build.

The real subject

The Ferrari FXX is a track car derived from the Enzo that was not intended for use on ordinary roads. It was created as a development and customer platform for selected owners and ran on circuits within a closed program. Both the body and the powertrain were modified for track use compared with the production car, which also shows in the different external markings compared with an ordinary road-going Ferrari.

Application tips

Decals always belong on a smooth gloss undercoat — a matte or grainy clear coat causes so-called silvering, that is a silvery haze under the film. Cut the sheet as close to the print as possible, so that a minimum of clear carrier film is left. Soak them briefly, only until the decal begins to slide freely on the paper; long soaking washes the adhesive out. On more complexly shaped areas use a decal softener and let it work without pressure. With an older sheet it pays first to spray the whole sheet with a thin coat of gloss clear varnish, which strengthens the film. Once it has dried and any weathering is done, clear coat the whole model to the sheen you want.
