Self-adhesive painting masks for a model of the ZIL-4333 truck in 1:43 scale. The film with the cut-out shapes is stuck onto a cured base coat and serves to make the second shade end exactly where it should. The set contains no model parts and no decals; it is purely an aid for painting.
The ZIL-4333 belongs to the family of conventional trucks with the hood over the engine from the Moscow ZIL works, following on from the long-produced ZIL-130 line. The truck kept the characteristic silhouette with the engine ahead of the cab and was offered in a range of bodied versions for haulage and for municipal services. In Eastern Europe it was a commonly seen type.
With two-color schemes the order of shades is crucial. Spray the lighter tone first, let it cure thoroughly, and only then stick the mask on and move to the darker shade. A dark paint covers a light one reliably; the other way round it would show through and would have to be laid on in thick coats, which form a step under the edge of the film. Keep the transition between coats as thin as possible, because every unnecessary layer emphasizes the outline of the edge.
