Equipment for a model of the Mitsubishi A6M2 in 1:48 scale. The films cover the glazing on both sides, two insignia masks are enclosed and four turned barrels in two calibers.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Mitsubishi A6M2 entered service in 1940 and for two years had no equal opponent in the Pacific. The designer Jiro Horikoshi achieved exceptional agility and range by leaving armor and self-sealing tanks out of the airframe. The armament was divided: in the cowling sat two machine guns of 7.7 mm caliber firing through the propeller disc, while in each wing half there was a cannon of 20 mm caliber whose barrel clearly projected from the leading edge.
It is precisely the divided armament that makes this type a rewarding case for a metal replacement. The package contains both pairs, so the cowling as well as the wing is fitted, and besides that the tube of the airspeed sensor. The films cover the glazing from the outer and the reverse side, and two masks for the national insignia are enclosed.
On this aircraft the turned parts rest on something other types cannot offer: two different barrel thicknesses side by side. From half a meter away the eye tells the difference between 7.7 and 20 mm at once, provided both are made accurately. Plastic moldings, by contrast, tend to be unified into one diameter and the whole point of the contrast is lost. Anyone building a Zero as a pair with another Pacific machine gains more from this detail than from adding any other accessory.
