This is not a model of an aircraft but a detail accessory in resin for a model of the B-17 bomber in 1:48 scale. On this aircraft a turbocharger is a small but very characteristic feature: it sits on the underside of the engine nacelle and is visible from practically every angle from below and with the model on a base. Injection-molded plastic handles it only in rough outline, because the fine blades and the circular outlet do not draw well out of a mold. A resin casting renders this detail considerably more crisply.
A turbocharger is a device that drives a compressor with the exhaust gases of an engine and boosts the pressure of the intake air. On the B-17 bomber it was thanks to this that the radial engines did not lose power even at the great altitudes where the aircraft operated. The assembly was placed under the engine nacelle and completed by the exhaust ducting and a cooling air duct; that is exactly what makes the area under the nacelle an interesting shape to work up carefully on a model.
First wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water because of the release agent from the mold. Cut small castings off the casting block with a saw over a support, so that a small part does not jump away from you. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). In color, a turbocharger is worth setting apart from the surroundings of the nacelle - metal surfaces exposed to heat tend to be darker and brownish, which is well imitated with a glazed brown and blue-gray shade over a metallic base. A final dark picking out of the depths gives the part depth. We recommend gluing the set on only after the main painting of the model, so that the small parts are not broken off during handling.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
