Big Ed is a format of the Czech maker Eduard in which several separately sold accessory sets for one model are put together in a single package. This package is intended for a model of the twin-engine Bristol Beaufighter TF. X aircraft in 1:48 and concentrates on the details that injected plastic cannot give finely enough: the equipment and instruments of the cockpit, the harness straps, sheet metal covers, grilles and small elements of the airframe. A model of the aircraft is not included in the package.
The Bristol Beaufighter was a British twin-engine multirole aircraft. The TF. X version served Coastal Command as a torpedo and strike machine against shipping: it carried heavy gun armament, unguided rockets or a torpedo and operated at low altitude over the sea. It was a rugged, heavy and noisy machine with a long range that also made its mark in night operations. The large glazed cockpit and the intricate airframe let photo-etched details stand out well on a model.
Count on this being a package of sets: go through the contents and plan which parts you will fit before closing the fuselage. Nip the photo-etch out with a scalpel on a hard surface and make the bends in a bending tool or between blades. Sand off the plastic details that the photo-etch replaces. Degrease unprinted photo-etch and prime it with a primer for metals, and do not spray over the color-printed parts. It is glued with thin cyanoacrylate in a minimal amount. On a model with large glazing it pays to finish the interior including a wash and a dry brush, because it will be clearly visible.
The package is supplied unassembled. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
