Gecko Models 1:35 Normandy Beach Log Ramps Set is a set of sloping log ramps, that is the wooden beach obstacles of the Normandy beaches. It serves as an accessory for a diorama; it is not a model of a vehicle.

A diorama set in 1:35 scale from the maker Gecko Models. It contains sloping ramps of wooden logs that belonged among the beach obstacles in Normandy. The logs were driven into the sand at an angle, point toward the sea, so that a craft running onto the shore at high tide met an inclined surface. The set is not a model of a vehicle or a figure; it is a structural element of the setting that is set into a base and completes a beach.
Wooden ramps are rewarding in a diorama twice over. First in their shape: a sloping line breaks up the horizontal monotony of a stretch of sand and gives the scene direction. Second in their material: beside rusty steel and wet sand, wood offers a third surface on which craftsmanship can be shown. The ramps combine well with the other beach obstacles into a continuous belt; you do not have to set them all at the same height and the same distance apart, though, as natural irregularity works better than an exact grid.
Before painting, check that the logs stand at the same angle, and set them into the base before the surface of the beach is finished, as the surrounding material will then cover the seam. Wood is painted from a dark base toward lighter drawn-out passes: a base, then thin discontinuous coats of gray-brown shades over it, and finally a dry brush on the edges and the growth rings. The soaked lower part should be markedly darker than the upper one, glossier if you like, and should be completed with drifts of seaweed and sand. Any metal fittings you find on the parts take rust.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
