An injection-molded plastic model of the American single-engined cabin biplane Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing in the civil D17S version, in 1:48 scale from the brand Roden. The model offers an engraved surface with fabric-covering texture, a detailed cockpit and cabin, a multi-part radial engine, clear parts and a rigging diagram.
The Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing was an American single-engined cabin biplane of the 1930s. It earned the nickname Staggerwing thanks to the reversed (negative) arrangement of its wings - the lower wing sits ahead of the upper one, the opposite of the usual solution. It was fast, luxuriously appointed and served as a touring and business aircraft for wealthier customers and for companies. It was powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-985 Wasp Junior radial engine and it had retractable landing gear, unusual for its time. The D17S version is the civil configuration.
Glue the parts with thin modeling cement for plastic and reinforce the thin struts with cyanoacrylate glue. Set the interplane struts symmetrically first (watch out for the reversed stagger), then stretch the rigging according to the diagram. For gloss civil finishes use a smooth base and quality gloss paints or varnish; paint the cabin and the engine before closing them up.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
