A die-cut masking set from the brand Omask for a model of the Bf 109 G-6 fighter aircraft in 1:48 scale. It is neither a kit nor a part of the aircraft but a working accessory with which the canopy glazing is covered during painting. The set is cut for the Hasegawa kit in 1:48 scale; the shape of the canopy framing differs between the models of various manufacturers, which is why the sets cannot be swapped for one another. According to the name it contains masks for the outer as well as the inner side of the glazing.
Peel the pieces off the backing sheet with the tip of a scalpel or with tweezers and touch them with your fingers as little as possible, so that the adhesive layer does not lose its grip. Clean and degrease the clear part before applying them. Lay the mask down from one edge of the frame and press it on progressively; on the curves a toothpick will help. Close the edges carefully, otherwise the paint will creep underneath. Spray in several thin coats, because a heavy wet coat gets under the edge of a mask most easily of all. Take the mask off as soon as the paint has set but before it has fully cured, and the edge will then stay sharp. The inner masks have to be applied before the cockpit is assembled, as once the fuselage is closed up the glazing can no longer be reached from inside.
It suits anyone who does not want to cut the canopy frames out of masking tape by hand. On intricate glazing it saves hours of work and the result is uniform. Suitable for beginners and experienced modelers alike.
