Messerschmitt Bf 109 K-4 — wheels and paint masks 1:48 is a small but effective resin upgrade from the Czech manufacturer AML: truer landing gear and a clean paint job without laborious masking.
Responsibility details are not available.
Wheels are among the parts where injection-molded plastic most often loses out: the mold parting line runs across the tread and the hub detail tends to be soft. This set from the Czech manufacturer AML replaces the kit wheels with one-piece resin castings and adds paint masks for a quick, clean spray job. It is an accessory for a base kit, not a stand-alone model.
The Bf 109 K-4 was the last series-produced version of the famous fighter. It entered service late in 1944, was powered by the DB 605 D engine with the MW 50 power boost system and counted among the fastest piston-engined aircraft of the Luftwaffe. The high performance also called for changes to the landing gear, so true wheels are an inseparable part of the character of the K.
Separate the castings from the casting block with a fine saw, sand the mark down and glue the wheels with cyanoacrylate glue. Lay the masks on according to the instructions and spray the hub or the tire without any hand outlining, and the edge of the paint stays sharp. A flat rubber gray with a light dusting of pigment gives the landing gear a used look.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
