A set for the Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6 in Italian colors, 1:48 scale. The films cover the glazing from both sides, an insignia mask is enclosed and two metal MG 131 muzzles with the tube of the sensor.
Responsibility details are not available.
After the armistice was declared in the autumn of 1943, the Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana (ANR) of the northern Italian republic re-equipped with German machinery and among the first machines were exactly the Bf 109G-6. Pilots flew them with the fuselage crosses replaced by the fascio marking and with a tricolor on the rudder, so a combination arose that is not seen anywhere else. For a modeler that is a tempting excuse to build the most widespread variant of the Gustav and yet avoid the usual German camouflage.
The films cover the glazing from the outer and the reverse side, which helps mainly with a canopy slid back. One mask serves for spraying the marking; the metal part contains a pair of muzzles for the heavy machine guns from the cowling and the tube of the airspeed sensor.
A comparison with another set of the same series for a later Gustav is instructive. It contains exactly the same metal parts, that is two muzzles and a tube, and yet it encloses two insignia masks where this item has one. The number of masks, the number of metal components and the side of the glazing that is covered therefore have to be read for each item separately; there is no rule that would hold for the series as a whole. For choosing, one practical conclusion follows: always compare the particular pair of items, not the line. Anyone building a Gustav with the canopy slid back gets the reverse half of the films here.
