A personal sheet devoted to the Australian airman Brian A. Eaton. Three schemes follow his machines from the fighting over Italy in 1944 to occupation service in Japan in 1947.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Australian Brian Alexander Eaton was among the officers who earned their command in the cockpit and not behind a desk. Over Italy he led No. 239 Wing, a formation of fighter-bombers made up of British and Dominion squadrons, and flew with it on attacks against transport junctions as well as in support of the advance on the ground. After the war his service took him to the opposite end of the globe: in 1947 he commanded No. 81 Wing, which took part in the Allied occupation of defeated Japan. It is precisely this arc that makes the sheet an unusual subject, because it offers three forms of one man across three years and two theaters.
Because there are only three subjects and each one stands on a different shade, count on the colored base being different every time. Once the print is settled, take a single varnish over the whole model, so that the gloss is evened out, and only then work with shading. The transition between a glossy and a matte surface is more noticeable in the final photograph than a small inaccuracy in the position of a letter. With so small a number of options, moreover, no spare piece is left over, so look every item over against the light before you soak it.
