The kit captures the French racing aircraft Caudron C.561 in the larger of the two scales offered. It is a product of the short-run brand SBS Model, which has long devoted itself to exactly these prewar French racing and sporting aircraft, that is to subjects the large Japanese and European firms practically never cover. The particular contents of the package, the number of parts and the number of color schemes are given by the instructions in the box.
The Caudron C.561 belongs to the family of slender racing monoplanes that the designer Marcel Riffard drew up for the Caudron firm in the middle of the 1930s. The type series came about for the prestigious French speed contests, above all for the Coupe Deutsch de la Meurthe, and joined a minimal frontal area of the fuselage, carefully tuned aerodynamics and an inline Renault engine. It was precisely this school of design that made the French racing Caudrons some of the fastest piston aircraft of their time, and what was learned from it later showed in the C.714 fighter design as well.
Against mass-produced injection-molded plastic, short-run kits have coarser raised detail and less tolerance for haste. So dry-fit all the parts first and only then glue them. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts: cyanoacrylate glue on resin, a thin modeling cement on injection-molded plastic. Wash the resin parts in warm water with detergent before the build, so that they are freed of the remains of the mold release agent, and protect your airways while sanding. A racing aircraft is rewarding for a polished gloss finish: fill the ground and sand it smooth, spray a filler primer and lay the paint on in thin coats with an airbrush. A gloss varnish comes before the decals, and after them a matte or semi-gloss overcoat according to the look you want.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
