This is a masking set in kabuki paper, not a kit of the helicopter. The masks are cut in advance to the shape of the glazed and other areas of a model of the CH-47A Chinook in 1:48 scale, and they serve to keep the framing crisp and the edges clean once sprayed. The ADVANCED level is the middle of the levels the brand makes for this subject — BASIC and EXPERT variants are made alongside it. As the level rises, the extent of the masked areas grows; the particular list is given by the instructions in the package.

The real subject

The CH-47A was the first production version of the twin-rotor Chinook transport helicopter. The tandem arrangement of the main rotors does without a tail rotor, so the power of both engines goes into lifting capacity; the fuselage has a large cargo hold and a folding ramp at the rear. It is precisely the complex glazing of the pilot's cabin and the side windows that make masking one of the most laborious parts of the build, which is why cut masks pay off more on this subject than on a simple canopy.

How to use the masks

• First degrease the areas and let them dry perfectly.
• Lift the individual masks with tweezers, seat them dry and press the edges down carefully with a toothpick.
• Spray the paint in thin coats, so that it does not seep under the edge of a mask.
• Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried, not after several days.
• Kabuki paper follows curves and as a rule leaves no adhesive residue once removed.
