1:48 Colt M1895 Potato Digger (pair) is a pair of small resin aircraft machine guns in 1:48 scale from GasPatch models.
Responsibility details are not available.
Two castings of the Colt M1895 machine gun in 1:48 scale replace the simplified plastic weapons that tend to come with kits of older aircraft. In this scale the weapon is small, yet it is one of the elements where inaccuracy of shape shows first: the sharp edges and cleanly rendered relief of the casting lift the model considerably.
The Colt M1895 was an air-cooled, gas-operated machine gun whose characteristic feature was the swinging lever under the barrel. The nickname Potato Digger comes precisely from it: during firing the lever swept an arc downward. The weapon was used from the end of the 19th century and during the First World War it also appeared in aircraft service as the observer's movable weapon and in training.
Lay the small resin parts out on a tray with a rim so that they do not get lost. Before gluing, wash them in warm soapy water and let them dry thoroughly. Cut the casting block off with a thin saw, not with pliers. It is bonded with super glue: in this scale a really small drop applied with a pin is enough. Both a brush and an airbrush handle the painting: dark steel as a base, fine edge highlighting and a very careful wash. Heavy effects would visually swamp a small weapon.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
