This set from MH models opens up a less usual route on a well-known bomber: the Finnish form of the markings. The insignia are not applied but sprayed through a self-adhesive template, so they have no carrier film and no visible edge and they will take later sanding or weathering. On machines operated in harsh northern conditions that is a welcome property, because the surface on a model tends to be deliberately marked. The set is cut for a particular Do-17Z-2 kit in 1:48 scale. The extent of the sheet is stated on the box.
The product is intended for the ICM kit. That is bought separately.
The Dornier Do 17 was a German twin-engine bomber whose Z series forms the close of the type's development; its recognition feature is the deepened glazed nose with room for the whole crew. The Z-2 version was the basic bomber form. The Finnish Air Force received these machines in a smaller batch during 1942 and used them for bombing and later for reconnaissance duties.
The Finnish markings rest on simple geometry, so the result is decided mainly by accurate seating of the template and a clean edge. The surface must be cured, press the mask down around the whole perimeter of the cut-out and spray perpendicularly, in two or three thin coats. Lay an opaque coat under a light color on a dark finish. Take the template off while the paint is fresh, and do so slowly, at an angle away from the edge.
This is a modeling accessory, not a model of the aircraft. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
