This item is a detailing accessory, not a kit of an aircraft. The resin replacement for the exhaust nozzle is intended for models of the F-16 in 1:48 scale with the General Electric F110 powerplant. The variant captures the nozzle in the closed position, that is with the end petals retracted – that is how the rear of the aircraft looks on many parked machines. A resin casting allows thinner walls and a sharper rendering of the petals than can be drawn out of a split injection mold.
The F-16 is a single-engine multirole combat aircraft produced with two engine standards – with the General Electric F110 engine and with the Pratt & Whitney F100. The external appearance of the exhaust nozzle differs clearly between the two powerplants, and for a modeler it is the most reliable guide when identifying a particular machine. The diameter of the nozzle and the division of the petals moreover change with their position, which is why makers offer the open and the closed standard separately.
Wash the part first in lukewarm water with dish soap – the residue of the mold release agent otherwise stops both paint and glue from adhering. Cut the casting block off with a saw, never break it off. For joining, use cyanoacrylate superglue or epoxy. Do any sanding wet and with your airways protected. Paint the nozzle separately before it is glued into the fuselage; the inner liner and the petals are hard to get at once assembled. Apply metallic shades onto a smooth primer coat and mix metallic paints thoroughly before use.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
