This is a resin accessory, not a model of an aircraft. The set replaces the wheels of the landing gear of an injection-molded Phantom kit in 1:48 scale with castings that have a more readable tread pattern and a more accurate shape of the hub. It is one of the modifications that can be recognized on a finished model at first glance. The wheels are intended for the Hasegawa kit.
The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II was an American twin-engine two-seat fighter originally developed for carrier service with the navy. Characteristic are the upswept outer wing panels and the anhedral of the horizontal tail. The F-4B version was one of the first production carrier variants; the F-4N version arose through its later modernization, aimed at extending the life of the airframe and modifying the equipment. Carrier operations placed extraordinary demands on the landing gear, because the aircraft was very heavy for its time and landed on the deck without a flare.
Wash the castings with lukewarm soapy water and let them dry. Cut the casting block off with a saw, level the surface with abrasive paper and check during a dry fit that the model stands straight on all its wheels once they are seated. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). In terms of color it pays, on carrier machines, to work with a contrast between lighter wheel rims and a dark, slightly grayed shade of the tire. Operational dirt on a deck has a greasy and sooty character rather than a dusty one, so instead of a light pigment use a dark wash and a fine application of a smoke shade around the landing gear bay.
This is an accessory for modelers, not a standalone kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
