This item is not a model of the aircraft but a photo-etched set for the external surface of the F/A-18C model in 1:48 scale. Metal etching makes it possible to produce elements at a thickness injection-molded plastic cannot manage, so the silhouette of the model comes across more sharply and the surface more faithfully. The specific list of parts is stated on the box of the set.
Exterior photo-etched parts for modern combat aircraft usually take care of the places where plastic is necessarily thick or simplified: covers and hatches, grilles, cooling outlets, small reinforcements and plates on the skin. The difference is best seen after painting, when the thin edge of a photo-etched part holds a sharp shadow while its molded plastic equivalent dissolves in the finish.
The F/A-18C Hornet is the single-seat version of a twin-engine carrier-borne multirole aircraft, operated by the US Navy and the Marine Corps. The design allows for operation from aircraft carriers, that is a reinforced landing gear, an arrestor hook and folding wings. The machine carried out both fighter and strike tasks.
Fit the external photo-etched parts only onto the finished and sanded shape of the model, ideally before the primer goes on. Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, and make the bends in a bender so that the edge is sharp. They are glued with superglue applied in the smallest possible quantity, as any excess would stay visible as a rim after painting. Degrease the sheet before painting and prime it, otherwise the paint will not hold on smooth metal.
