This resin set from Quickboost, a brand of the Czech maker Aires, brings faithfully cast exhausts in the night version for a model of the American Vought F4U-5 Corsair carrier fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not an airplane model but a detail accessory for more experienced modelers; the night exhausts have shields that reduced the glare of the flame for the crew during night flying.

The real subject

The Vought F4U Corsair was an American carrier fighter recognizable by its inverted gull wing and powered by a Pratt and Whitney R-2800 radial engine. The F4U-5 version was among the postwar variants and in its night form it flew intruder missions in the dark; the Corsair proved itself as late as the Korean War.

Tips for working with resin

First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water to remove mold release residue. Cut off the casting blocks with a saw and sand the cut surfaces with respiratory protection. Bond the exhausts with super glue (cyanoacrylate) and bring them out with dark shades and pigments for a metal and soot effect. Test the fit dry before painting.
