Kurt Tank's design set a twin-row BMW 801 radial against the in-line engines, and the A-3 series is its first really mature form. The wide track of the main landing gear made the machine forgiving on grass strips, electrically operated controls took work off the pilot and its agility about the longitudinal axis was famous. The best known example of this version ended up by mistake at a British airfield in South Wales in June 1942, so Allied technicians got an undamaged specimen sooner than they expected. It was from that machine that a range of measures came which gave the initiative back to the opponent in the following season.
Bleeding is not solved by pressing harder but by the order of the coats. Once the film is applied, run a thin mist of the shade that is underneath it over its edge. Anything that gets under the edge will merge with the base and stay invisible, because it is the same color. Only then spray the target shade. The second half of the success is thinning: an over-thinned coat wicks by capillary action under the edge, while a thicker film stops at the edge. Keep the pressure lower and make more passes rather than one wet one. The last detail on which it all turns is timing: lift the film off at the moment when the surface is dry to the touch but not yet fully cured, otherwise the film cracks at the edge toward the inside of the marking.
