A photo-etched metal set in 1:48 scale from Aber with small accessories relating to the gear of German tank crews of the Second World War. Etched metal can capture thin buckles, clasps and small fittings at a thickness that neither a plastic figure nor a resin casting can offer in this scale. It is an accessory set for figures and vehicle interiors, not a model.
Small items of gear are usually only suggested in 1:48 scale. Replacing them with photo-etch raises the realism of figures and of open vehicle hatches alike, because the eye picks up the correct thickness of the material at once. The accessories are used purely as scale modeling parts, just as with the vehicles of any other army.
Nip the parts from the etched fret and clean them up, make the bends on a bending tool or along the scored lines and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue. Degrease the metal before painting and go over it with a base coat for adhesion. In 1:48 scale the parts are very small, so sharp tweezers and good lighting pay off.
