A photo-etched set for a model of the attack helicopter Bell AH-1G Cobra in 1:48 scale. Thin metal parts replace details that plastic cannot manage at this scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Bell AH-1G Cobra was the first production attack helicopter. It grew out of the proven machine of the Huey line but received an entirely new, very narrow fuselage in which two crew members sit in tandem. The gunner is at the front, with the pilot behind and slightly higher, so that each can see over the other's shoulder. The machine stands on skids, has stub wings with pylons for armament on the sides and a rotating turret under the forward fuselage. The narrow fuselage reduced the frontal area of the machine and so made it harder to hit with fire from the ground.
Photo-etched parts are thin metal elements cut out of sheet. They replace the places where a plastic part necessarily comes out too thick: control panels, levers, grab handles, grilles and loops. Which parts the set covers and which kit it is intended for are given in the manufacturer's instructions, so go through them in full before you reach for a blade.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface and never pull them out, because the sheet will bend and straighten badly. Sand down the remnant of the holding fret tab. Make the bends along a ruler or in an etch bender and start with the smallest parts, on which the hand learns most. Glue with cyanoacrylate applied in a minute amount on the tip of a toothpick; on larger areas epoxy suits better, as it gives time to seat things. Before painting, degrease the sheet and use a primer, otherwise the paint will not stay on smooth metal.
The set contains photo-etched parts only. The kit of the helicopter, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
