A sheet of waterslide decals from the Polish manufacturer Techmod in 1:48, meant for a model of the heavy twin-engine Gotha G.IV bomber in the form built under license by the Siemens-Schuckert Werke company. The markings match a machine operated by the 21st Escadrille in 1920. The package holds the decals only; the model itself and paints are not part of it.
The Gotha G.IV was a large twin-engine biplane of the First World War period with pusher propellers and mixed wood-and-fabric construction, designed for bombing flights over greater distances. Because of the high demand, its manufacture spread beyond the parent factory as well and part of the machines were built by licensees, the Siemens-Schuckert Werke among them. After the end of the war several surviving aircraft reached the equipment of the newly created Polish Air Force and served with a bomber unit in 1920. It is precisely this late chapter of service that makes the Gotha an interesting subject, because the same type of aircraft carries entirely different national insignia from the ones of its original service.
Clear-coat the area under the decal with a gloss coat, so that no air stays under the film and no silvery edge forms. Cut the individual motifs out as close to the print as possible, dip them in lukewarm water for a few seconds and, once they release from the backing, slide them onto the spot. A decal softener will help the settling markedly, as it draws the film to the engraved lines and to the ribbing of the covering. Once dry, clear-coat the surface with a matte or semi-matte coat, which will hide the edges of the film. On the large areas of a biplane work in parts and let each motif dry.
