A set of pre-cut masking templates from the Czech manufacturer Eduard, intended for painting a model of the British jet fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit or a photo-etched set. The templates follow the shape of the glazing frames and are complemented by masks for the wheels, so the slow business of cutting tape with a scalpel falls away. The extent of the set and the number of templates are given by the manufacturer on the packaging.
The Hawker Hunter was a British single-seat jet fighter with a swept wing that became one of the most successful postwar British types and served with dozens of foreign users. Compared with the first series, the F.4 version brought a greater fuel load and the ability to carry stores under the wing, while the F.5 was the equivalent of the same form with a different powerplant. The Hunter was marked by easy servicing of the armament housed in a removable pack under the fuselage and by clean aerodynamic shapes, which made it a favorite machine of display and aerobatic teams. The later variants served in the strike and training roles long after the type was replaced in the fighter role.
Lift a template with tweezers and lay it on degreased glazing, press it down from the center toward the edges and smooth the edges so that no paint runs underneath. Spray the interior shade first, then the airframe color. Always work in thin coats; a heavy coat makes a step at the edge. Remove the mask at a shallow angle while the finish is fresh. In a large scale every inaccuracy shows, so it pays to check the edges of the templates against the light before spraying. On the wheels, masking the tire gives you a cleanly separated hub with no laborious outlining with a brush.
