This product is not a kit and not an interior accessory, but a classic decal sheet with markings. It makes it possible to build a model of the British Hawk jet trainer and light combat aircraft in the colors of machines of the Royal Air Force and the Fleet Air Arm, that is, the aviation of the navy. An overview of the machines covered and the make-up of the sheet are given in the enclosed instructions.
The Hawk came about in the 1970s as the successor to older training types and in British service went through a range of roles from basic jet training to advanced training and practice air combat. It is precisely on training machines that the markings are exceptionally varied: alongside the national insignia and serial numbers, the aircraft carry striking high-visibility stripes, unit codes and, on special occasions, conspicuous commemorative color schemes as well. Machines in the service of the Fleet Air Arm differ from the aircraft of the RAF in details of marking, and it is precisely this difference that makes the sheet interesting even for modelers who already have one Hawk built.
With a marking sheet the base decides. Always apply the decals onto gloss varnish, not onto matte paint — a matte surface is microscopically divided up and air stays in it under the carrier film, which once dry shows itself as a silvery haze around the insignia. The procedure is therefore: paint, gloss varnish, decals, decal softener as needed, and only at the end matte or satin varnish over the whole model. That also hides the edges of the carrier film and evens the surface out.
It is a decal sheet, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
