A tank non-commissioned officer of the Italian army in 1:35 scale complements the rank-and-file crew members from the same Royal Model range. A commanding figure gives a scene with an armored vehicle a clear hierarchy.

Grading by rank is one of those details that move a diorama from an illustration to a narrative: as soon as there is somebody in the scene who commands, what the others are doing starts to make sense too. This Royal Model item represents a non-commissioned officer of the Italian armored branch from the time of the Second World War and follows on naturally from the rank-and-file crew members in the same range.
In Italian medium tanks a heavy burden lay on the commander. Besides directing the fighting he often served the weapon as well and looked after communications, because the crews were small in number and a radio set was far from a matter of course. A non-commissioned rank was recognized by the patches on the sleeve and the markings on the headgear, and in armored units the badges of the branch were worn as well. It is exactly these small things that set a commanding figure apart from the rest of the crew, although they have the basic uniform in common.
The rank markings are worth painting with the finest brush and thinned paint in two layers; crisp stripes laid on in one go look coarse and draw the attention. Keep the uniform in a shade close to the rest of the crew, so that the scene stays unified, and create the difference rather by the care of the execution than by a different color. A small sheen on the leather and a completely matte surface on the cloth will do the rest.
The figure is sold in a raw state without a surface finish; the package does not contain finishing materials or glue.
