About product

A mask set for the He-111Z Zwilling in 1:48 scale

A set of die-cut self-adhesive masks from the Czech manufacturer Eduard. It is intended for masking the glazing and sharply bounded areas when spraying. It is as well to be clear about the kind of product at once: this package contains only masking stencils of paper. It is not a photo-etched set that adds metal parts to the model, and it is not a kit — the model of the aircraft is bought separately.

Why masks pay off on this type

The Zwilling came about by joining two He 111 fuselages with a new center wing section. In practice that means twice the number of glazed areas and frames compared with an ordinary twin-engine aircraft, and therefore twice the work if you were to mask by hand with tape. Pre-cut masks shorten this part of the build markedly and, above all, make sure that the frames come out the same width on both fuselages.

The real subject

The He 111Z was a special machine intended for towing heavy transport gliders. It came about by joining two He 111 airframes with a new center wing section into which a fifth engine was built. The crew was divided between the two fuselages. It was a frankly purpose-built design made in only a small number of examples.

Use

Degrease the glazing and let it dry. Lift the masks off with tweezers, line them up dry and only then press the edges down with a blunt tip. On large glazing work systematically from one side to the other so that you do not forget a panel. Apply the paint in thin coats and remove the mask before the finish has cured completely. The masks are cut for a particular kit of this type; please check compatibility with your model.

Who the set is for

  • modelers building the He-111Z in 1:48 scale
  • anyone interested in quick and even masking of extensive glazing
  • builders who finish models with an airbrush
  • modelers who want to prepare a model for a cabinet or a competition

This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.

FAQ

No. The package contains only masking stencils for finishing. The He-111Z kit has to be bought separately.

A photo-etched set adds metal parts to the model, which stay there permanently. A mask is a paper stencil that merely covers an area temporarily while spraying and is then taken off.

A machine created by joining two He 111 airframes with a new center wing section carrying a fifth engine. It served for towing heavy transport gliders and was made in only a small number of examples.

The designation TFace, which Eduard uses for masks for the outer and inner side of the glazing, is not in the name of this set. The exact extent of the masks is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
