The masks are pre-cut into a self-adhesive carrier and serve to keep covered, during spraying, those areas that are to stay clean, typically the cockpit glazing and the areas under the markings. The Polikarpov I-153 Chaika was a Soviet single-seat fighter biplane with retractable landing gear and a characteristic gull upper wing, which is where its nickname came from. It was derived from the earlier I-15 type and came about at the end of the thirties as an attempt to prolong the life of the biplane concept at a time when monoplane fighters were already entering service. Some of the machines built also went outside the Soviet Union and flew with the Chinese Air Force, whose form this set is intended for.
Degrease the surface before masking and let the paint under the mask cure properly. Lift the mask off the sheet with pointed tweezers or the tip of a scalpel, lay it on dry and press the edge down carefully with a toothpick: it is precisely the tightness of the edge that decides the result. Spray in several thin coats and direct the stream of paint perpendicular to the surface rather than under the edge of the mask. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has set, while the film is still flexible. With glazing it pays to spray the shade of the inside of the frames first and only then the top color.
The package contains only the masks. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
