Omask 1:48 Junkers Ju-188 - a masking set

A set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for a model of the Junkers Ju 188 in 1:48 scale from the Omask brand. It is not a kit, not photo-etched parts and not decals — the masks are stuck onto a finished surface and the paint is sprayed over them.

The real subject

The Ju 188 is the development continuation of the twin-engined Ju 88. The most conspicuous difference is the fully glazed nose with a dome and the more pointed wingtips. It is precisely that extensive glazing, both vertical and sloped, that makes a model of the Ju 188 a candidate for masking: hand-cut strips are hard to line up over so many frames and the accuracy drops quickly, whereas cut masks sit on every frame the same way.

Procedure and tips

• Polish and degrease the glazed parts first, and only then apply the masks.
• Lift the mask off the sheet with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel and press down the edges above all.
• Before the color, spray a thin coat of the shade of the frames or of clear coat — it will seal the edge of the mask.
• Apply the paint in several thin coats, otherwise it will creep under.
• Take the masks off shortly after the paint has set, not after it has cured.

Who the set is for

For modelers who build the Ju 188 in 1:48 and do not want to spend an evening cutting masking tape for the frames of a canopy. Sets of masks are cut to the shape of a particular molding, so verify before you buy that it matches the kit you have.

The set contains masks only. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
