Hauler 1:48 photo-etched exhaust shroud for the Königstiger with the Porsche turret replaces the thick-walled plastic casing of the exhaust pipework at the rear of a model. It is an aftermarket accessory, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A photo-etched accessory from the Czech maker Hauler which replaces the protective casing of the exhaust pipework on the rear wall of the model of the German Pz.Kpfw. VI Ausf. B heavy tank with the early Porsche turret in 1:48 scale. The set is cut for a specific Tamiya kit; the model itself is not included in the package.
On the real vehicle the exhaust shroud is a sheet-metal structure with visible gaps and openings. A plastic casting can manage that only as a solid wall with a suggested engraving, and seen from the rear, that is, from where a model is most often photographed, it looks needlessly coarse. Photo-etch gives the casing a real thickness and see-through gaps, so that a shadow appears between it and the body of the exhaust.
The shroud is rolled into a curved shape, which is the most delicate operation with photo-etch. First anneal the brass briefly over a flame and let it cool - it softens and stops springing back. Shape it gradually around a round mandrel, a drill bit or a rod of a matching diameter for instance, and never with tweezers at a single point. Fine-tune the bends only after the seating on the model has been tried dry. It is bonded with super glue applied with a pin; a gel version gives more time to line it up. Degrease the brass before painting and spray it with a primer for metal, then weather the exhaust with rust, pigment and a dry brush.
This is an accessory for a kit, not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
