A set of photo-etched parts for the model of the Soviet KV-1 heavy tank in 1:48 scale, cut for the Tamiya kit. The etched sheet replaces parts that in injection-molded plastic are necessarily thicker than the scale would call for: the fenders and their stiffeners, the grilles over the engine compartment, eyes, clasps and tool clamps. The extent of the set and the placement of the parts is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The KV-1 was a Soviet heavy tank of the start of the Second World War, known for its heavy armor and the great weight that went with it.
For the vehicle modeler who is bothered by thick plastic sheet parts on a finished model. On the KV-1 the wide fenders pay off most of all: in photographs of the real machines they tend to be bent, dented or torn off, and thin metal can be worked into such a shape without trouble. The work is fine and calls for tweezers and a calm hand.
